The Urals region is famous not only for its industrial traditions. The history of the region is closely connected with manufacturing and industry. Since 16th century Russians started to explore treasures of the soil of the Urals. They found out that the mountains were rich in minerals, especially in ore. But expedition also found rich stone deposits: such natural stones like - granite, malachite, marble (they were used mainly in architecture); serpentine, topaz, tourmaline, cornelian and other semi-precious stones, and also emeralds. Since that time mining and dressing of the stones began. In some years it became a real art. Different stones became popular all over the world. The tradition of stone dressing ruined in times of Perestroika. But in the very end of the 20th century it began to rise again. In Yekaterinburg some new workshops and plants have appeared for the last 10-15 years. They use practically all the cycles of stone dressing, exporting their production in Russian cities and abroad.

We offer you a one-day tour. At first you will visit the quarry where marble is extracted. This quarry, the possession of our partner “Mramorgaz” Limited Liability Company, is a big one. It has been exploited for more than 100 years. Its hugeness and greatness make you feel some awe – this is the place where the stones are born. The next place to visit is one of Mramorgaz’s plants where granite is dressed. You will get acquainted with all the cycles of stone dressing and be amazed by giant machines, and see how the natural stone becomes a masterpiece. Finally you will visit the Geological Museum in Yekaterinburg and get acquainted with practically all the stones extracted in the Ural Mountains.

The tour program includes:
- 10.00 Meeting with tourists, way to the quarry
- 11.30 Excursion to the quarry, seeing the excavators and different machines, used in stone quarrying (1 hour)
- 14.30 Excursion to the plants where granite is dressed, acquaintance with the processes of stone dressing (1 hour)
- 15.30 Dinner in the workers’ canteen (1 hour)
- 17.00 Excursion to the Geological Museum (2 hours)

Features of the tour:
- the group shall include not more than 20 people. The maximum number of people to visit the workshops in the plant is 10 people according to the rules of safety measures: while the first group of 10 people is visiting the workshops, the other group has the dinner
- the whole program takes 10 hours
