Bazhov Pavel Petrovich (1879-1950)

Russian writer. Was born in a family of the master of mining. Graduated Perm Theological seminary (1899), taught in Yekaterinburg and Kamishlov. Took part in the Civil war. Collected folklore in the Ural plants. The most important work - collected stories "Malachitovaya Shkatulka" (1939) which was later republished with additions. Bazhov's works date from the Ural "Secret tales" - legends of mining workers and prospectors. The tales have absorbed motives, coloring and the language of these legends and combine reality with fantasy like they do. On the motives of Bazhov's tales was shooted the film "Crimson Flower" (1946), were staged Prokofev's ballet "Tale about the stone flower" (1954), K.V.Molchanov's opera of the same name, numerous sculptural, musical and pictorial works.

Gennin Villim Ivanovich - Georg Vilgelm de Gennin (1676-1750)

Lieutenant-general. Dutchman of German origin, invited in the Russian army by Peter the Great during the stay of the tsar in Holland. The head of Olonetsk, Ural and Siberian mining plants. Since 1734 he is the manager of the main artillery office in St. Petersburg. One of the founders of Yekaterinburg. The author of the fundamental work - "The description of the Ural and Siberian plants".

Malakhov Mikhail Pavlovich (1781-1842)

The Ural architect one of the initiators of industrial architecture. The pupil of the Academy of art, follower of the famous Russian architects A.N.Voronihin and I.Ye. Starova. Since 1815 he worked in Yekaterinburg and held the post of the head architect of the Ural mining administration. He built a lot of industrial constructions in Zlatoust, Kushvin and Kamensk plants, on Berezovsk gold-fields and in Yekaterinburg. His best buildings are 2 Ryazanovs' country estates, the house of the head of mining industry, the cathedral of Alexander Nevskii, Verh-Isetsk mining hospital,etc. Malakhov have contributed heavily to the development of the general plan of the city in 1829.

Metenkov Veniamin Leontievich (1859-1933)

The photographer-paintor, the member of Russian geographic society, the member of the UOAS, the participant the international, Russian and Ural exhibitions. He was born in Miass. His talent appeared after he moved into Yekaterinburg in 1882. V.L.Metenkov constantly travel around the Ural, where he took the photographs of plants, settlements, pits, mines, mountains and rivers. The special series of the postcards is devoted to ancient Yekaterinburg. It includes the memorials of architecture, different parts of the city, events which occurred that time. V.L.Metenkov published 2 albums of the looks of the Ural and Yekaterinburg, created the map the river Chusovaya, the plan of Yekaterinburg in 1910. In 1910-1916 he released the films "Yekaterinburg during Shrovetide", "Along the Iset river", "The tour on the river Chusovaya", etc. He was buried in Mikhailovsk graveyard in Yekaterinburg.

Popov Alexander Stepanovich (1859-1905)

He was born in the village Turinskie Rudniky, Bogoslavsky mining region, Verhotursky uyezd, Perm province, nowadays on the territory of Krasnoturinsk, Sverdlovsk region. He was physicist, electric-engineer, the inventor of the wireless. In 1990 he became the honorable electric engineer. He was the member of the Russian Technical society (1901). Graduated the University of St. Petersburg (1882). In 1883-1901 he taught in Kronshtadt mine-layer and nautical school. Since 1901 he is the professor of the St. Petersburg Electrotechnical institute. In 1869-1871 he studied in Dalmatov's theological school, then in 1871-1873 continued his education in the theological school in Yekaterinburg, in 1873 - 1877 he was the student of Perm theological seminary. In 1986 was opened the Popov museum of radio. The street in Yekaterinburg is named in his honour. On the 7th of May by the Day of Radio was installed the memorial to Popov near the head post-office.

Tatischev Vasily Nikitich (1686-1750)

Politician, diplomatist, historian. The founder of Yekaterinburg, Perm and Orenburg. Studied in Moscow artillery and engineering school under the leadership of Yakov Bryus. The participant of the seizure of Narva and the battle in Poltava. In 1719 according to the Bruss's recommendations he got the assignment from Peter the Great to create the "Russian history". In 1720 found the Siberian mining office. In 1724-1726 was in Sweden with the diplomatic mission. In 1730 he created the project of constitutional monarchy for the empress Anna Ioannovna (it was declined). Since 1730 he is the head judge of the mint office, but in 1731 he was accused of bribery and prosecuted according to the Biron's instructions. He was released in 1734 and appointed the head of the Ural and Siberian plants, but in 1737 he was dismissed again. In 1739 Tatischev returned to St. Petersburg and was arrested and imprisoned in Petropavlovsk stronghold on accusation of bribery. After the downfall of Biron (1741) he was appointed to govern Astrakhan province in Tsaritsin. Since 1745 he lived in a village Boldino near Moscow and worked on the "history of Russia since the ancienst time". This work was published in 5 books in 1776.
