International relations play an important role in the development of the economy of the city. A number of foreign diplomatic representations in the city are officially accredit - consulate general of the USA, Great Britain, Czechia, Byelorussia and other countries; the representatives of the culture departments of the embassies of France and Japan in Moscow work here. Also in the city are acting the 160 representations of foreign companies and the centre of international trade which is a member of 60 best centres in the world. On the whole the enterprises of Yekaterinburg keep great volumes of export-imported operations with more than 100 counties in the world, production is exported to 95 countries and imported from 103.

Thanks to the advantageous geographical location on the frontier of Europe and Asia Yekaterinburg is the so-called "centre of attraction" on the Europe-Asia area.
Yekaterinburg is one of the leading financial centres in Russia. Today 31 independent commercial banks and 20 branches of another cities' banks are working in the city, a lot of which are the members of international pay systems Visa, Europay International and MasterCard, the emitters of international plastic cards. The enterprises are working on the stock market in Yekaterinburg. City stock exchange takes the third place in Russia on the volume of transactions.
Geographical location of Yekaterinburg on the crossing of railway, motor-car and aircraft lines from Siberia into central Russia, from the Far East and from South-East Asia - into Europe, and also from the rich in oil and gas North to the South, has defined the importance of the city as the large transport-logistic junction. Growing passenger and cargo production lines serve the largest railway junction in Europe and the international airport Koltsovo. A whole net of important motorways appeared in a year.
Yekaterinburg is the authoritative centre of science and education. The presidium of the Ural department of Russian Academy of Science is based in the city, 45 scientific-research institutes, 30 institutes of higher education, 40 technical secondary schools, more than 150 municipal educational institutions work here. 167 thousand students studied in local institutes of higher education in 2001. Among them were teenagers from Australia, the USA, German, China, Corea, Mongolia, countries of theCIS, Turkey, Japan and another countries of the near and remote countries beyond the boundary. The amount of people from another cities and foreigners is the one third from the total number of Yekaterinburg students.
Yekaterinburg is one of the leading centres of creative and intellectual life in Russia. The city always summons the cultural and art workers of all genres. Today 30 museums, about 35 show-rooms and galleries, 22 theatres, more than 40 concert halls and stages are opened; hundreds of creative bodies, ensembles and groups act; more than 50 music and art schools work.
Annually Yekaterinburg is visited by 10-15 thousand foreign guests, the number of the visitors from another cities of Russia tens times more. The capital of the Ural is hospitable and beautiful where all conditions for running a business and getting into new business contacts have created. This is the cultural and educational centre of international importance.
